Discover the creative potential of thread and stitch in combination with dissolvable fabric.  You’ll learn how to draw with a sewing machine and explore the delights of creating delicate lace like items, we’ll consider colour mixing and varied thread types too.

I’ll have a series of examples to assist and inspire your creations, so you don’t need to worry about the design, simply enjoy discovering a new method of working: All the skills you’ll learn are transferable to other projects.

I’ve recently added a new dimension to this workshop – some of you may wish to explore a drawn landscape or composition to create something similar to the pieces in the video above.

  • I really enjoyed this workshop, lovely to learn the rudiments and start to experiment, with some individual attention and advice. This approach is far more likely to grow legs once you get home rather than all making a fixed item. I am now hungry for more and will definitely book again with Dionne.

  • Had a very interesting and inspiring day, can’t wait to get my sewing machine out at home and continue exploring the technique. Very relaxed, friendly day with great content, plenty of hands-on learning and were very well looked after with regards to refreshments. Can totally recommend this day and I hope to book on future courses.

  • Another winning workshop. Each time I attend a course with Dionne, my head fizzes with excitement. My only complaint is that the time goes in the blink of an eye and the day is over. I often use freehand machine embroidery , but my technique has had an overhaul and I’m changing and improving what I do. Without Dionne I was destined to repeat my bad habits and less productive methods. Bravo Dionne.

  • A very interesting workshop that focussed on thread & stitch – and what amazing fabrics you can create. This technique has lots of potential for abstract work, jewellery and paintings. Also really enjoyed the Powerpoint presentation of the work of some leading textile artists who create pieces in this medium. Cake excellent, too!

  • I have attended several of Dionne workshop and it is the second time I have done the working with dissolvable workshop. It was truly inspirational. Dionne constantly updates her workshops, so each time is a different experience that has extended my reportoire of knowledge. Would recommend them to anyone. Plus she makes really yummy cake for those attending!

  • This workshop opens up fresh ways of translating drawing into textile art, using dissolvable background fabric to create gestural marks and areas of varied light and shade. Lots to take away and think about!

  • I had attended the “working with dissolvable” workshop before but as I’d enjoyed it so much the first time I decided to go again and I’m really glad I did. Dionne has developed her original workshop with a focus now on creating light and shade (the clue was in the title) and how these effects can be created by thread, specifically weights and combinations of thread, I don’t think there was anyone, amateur or seasoned sewer, that went home on the day without an expanded thread knowledge. The whole day was inspiring and enjoyable, Dionne is always encouraging and generous with her knowledge – she also makes fabulous carrot cake!

  • Thank you so much for a super, action packed course. It ticked all the boxes.
An inspirational teacher, highly organised, talented participants, pleasant venue and cake!
I learnt so much about threads and how to use them effectively.
I want to do it all again.

  • Yet another great workshop with Dionne and some very talented ladies………your patience is remarkable Dionne, you treat us each as individuals and get the best out of each one – your demos are clear and precise but still leaving room for individuality.
This was a completely different aspect to FME on dissolvables to which I have done previously and now I have the knack I will certainly be incorporating it in my work – after I have made the time to experiment further.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND everyone to give this workshop a go…………..
thanks to all who participated – it was a lovely group.
